In time for the fall school term, this web site will be
transformed into an
exciting
tool for teachers who wish to
use place-based learning in their classrooms.
As part of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, this site
will become a virtual field trip through the Lawson's Fork Creek
watershed, providing you local context for some of the concepts you
teach, including geography, history, ecology--and even art and
literature.
The Lawson's Fork Creek has many lessons to share. In the future this
site will include information on our native American history, the local
water cycle, the birth of the textile industry, the plants and animals
that live among us, and much more. Additionally, it will include artwork
and creative writing inspired by this stream, and we invite your school
to create its own gallery of river-inspired work that can become a part
of this site.
As we build this web site during the next six months, it would be
helpful to hear your views about how this tool can help teach your
students about the place they live. We encourage you to fill out the following
form so that we can
stay in touch with you about this project.
